Centers for Disease Control (CDC) Issues Statement on Flu Vaccine

Emergency One offers flu shotsFlu season is approaching and although the season is unpredictable, flu epidemics happen every year. The peak of the season generally occurs in January but now is the time to make sure that you are protected. A recent advisory (http://emergency.cdc.gov/han/han00374.asp) by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) indicates that influenza A (H3N2) viruses have been reported most frequently and have been detected in almost all states.

During past seasons when influenza A (H3N2) viruses have predominated, higher overall and age-specific hospitalization rates and more mortality have been observed, especially among older people, very young children, and persons with certain chronic medical conditions compared with seasons during which influenza A (H1N1) or influenza B viruses have predominated.

The CDC emphasized that if you start to see flu symptoms—fever, sore throat, cough body aches—it’s extremely important to begin taking antiviral medications as soon as possible.

Emergency One can treat your flu symptoms at any of our three locations—Kingston, Hyde Park and New Windsor, NY. If you have any questions about this year’s flu vaccine, please call us at 845.787.1400. Most insurance is accepted.
