STD’s are extremely common, in fact, millions of cases are reported annually.   By acknowledging the commonality of these infections, Emergency One Urgent Care strives to help empower individuals to take charge of their sexual health and contribute to the well-being of the Hudson Valley.  Emergency One offers walk-in testing and treatment for a variety of common STD’s including:

  • Chlamydia – Rapid testing available, results within 30 minutes
  • Gonorrhea – Rapid testing available, results within 30 minutes

At Emergency One, our providers will conduct a physical exam to detect visible signs of infection.  For female patients, this might involve a pelvic exam.  Additionally, the provider may draw blood, gather urine, or utilize a sterile cotton swab to procure samples for testing.  At Emergency One, if other types of STD/STI present itself, we can refer you to the appropriate County clinics for testing.

When to Seek Treatment for an STD

STDs typically don’t present a life-threatening emergency but ignoring them is ill-advised. Seek treatment promptly at Emergency One Urgent Care or with your primary care provider to enhance your sexual health, prevent infection spread, and avert potential complications. If left untreated, severe cases of sexually transmitted infections may result in:

Pregnancy complications
Eye inflammation
Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
Certain cancers

While some STDs respond well to common antibiotics, others are manageable with antiviral drugs. Notably, many STDs manifest no noticeable symptoms, emphasizing the importance of not overlooking them. If diagnosed, refrain from unprotected sex and notify prior partners. Before initiating a sexual relationship, both partners should undergo STD testing.
