The flu is a serious, potentially life-threatening illness. This year is shaping up to be a bad one. According to the Poughkeepsie Journal, there has been more than 22,763 cases in New York as of December 28th. That’s more than three times the average number of flu cases in the past two years by that date. Dutchess County has documented 119 cases of influenza as of January 2, 2020.
It’s not too late to protect yourself. The best way to protect yourself from the flu is to get your annual vaccination.
It takes approximately two weeks for your body to develop immunity as a result of your vaccination. Annual vaccinations are important as flu viruses are constantly changing and the vaccine formula is typically updated yearly. At Emergency One, we have started to see flu in our clinics. Don’t wait any longer, come on in and get protected! Most insurance plans will pay for your vaccination, if you have any questions regarding your coverage, please contact us and we can let you know if it is covered.
